Pickleball is currently the fastest-growing sport in Canada. Its appeal lies in its accessibility across all ages and abilities; blending elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong on a smaller court with a low net and paddle. Pickleball provides all involved the opportunity to be physically active and socially engaged.
Given the sport’s popularity and accessibility, Haldimand County lined all its outdoor public tennis courts for pickleball several years ago and included three indoor courts in the design of the Hagersville Active Living Centre, scheduled to open in fall 2025. The community has made it clear, though, that this is not enough.
While the modified outdoor courts were well received, they do not meet the requirements for optimal plckleball play, including potential league play. The outdoor courts are also in high demand by both tennis and pickleball players, often leading to congestion during peak usage times. This is our final call for donations to help reach our critical fundraising goal. The Legion PicklebaB Committee has reached 85% of our objective to raise $450,000 to build 4 Pickleball Courts for our community. We are just a few dollars away from achieving our goalI
